Donna Wadhams – September 2013

donna-wadhams-september-2013Words cannot convey my gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Jamie. She gave me my quality of life back. I’m the type of person who thrives on adrenaline from a hard work out at the gym or a hard day of skiing. The harder I push myself the better I feel. Unfortunately my skiing and working out at the gym 3-4 days per week came to a screeching halt when my lower back decided it had enough. My lower back was in excruciating pain radiating down into my toes! My general physician prescribed medication and physical therapy, but I just could not do that again. The previous year I encountered my first experience with a back problem. After lifting one of our dogs I felt something in my lower back but ignored it, the next day I foolishly picked him up again and that was the final straw. That old cliché, “the straw that broke the camel’s back” and that’s exactly what it felt like I could not stand up straight. Well, my general physician prescribed medication, I was hesitant as I try to avoid taking medicine, but at that time I had no other choice so I followed the prescribed doses and as I feared it destroyed my stomach resulting in another prescribed medication for my stomach. This past winter my back started acting up I did everything I could to continue skiing I lasted until the 2nd weekend in March when I lifted something the wrong way and my season ended. Once again I called my general physician and once again I was given a prescription for medication and physical therapy. I couldn’t do it again, I just could not. I needed and wanted something more natural something minus the medication. I talked to a colleague of mine and she recommended Dr. Jamie. Actually she raved about Dr. Jamie.

One of the best decisions I have ever made in my 57 years was calling Chiropractic Health Center of Glastonbury and asking for an appointment with Dr. Jamie. By some miracle I got an appointment that week. Dr. Jamie thoroughly explained what was happening in my back and spine and quite frankly it was frightening to see what was going on back there. I have to admit I was nervous to get my first adjustment but after my first one I had this euphoric feeling. I honestly did, I shared this with my co-worker and she could easily relate to what I was saying. After my first couple visits I felt so relaxed and comfortable with Dr. Jamie, she is wonderful. After a few weeks of seeing Dr. Jamie 3 times per week I was feeling better and better. She gave me exercises to strengthen my back which helped expedite my progress. Now it’s the end of August and I feel great. I got back to the gym about a month after seeing Dr. Jamie. I remember working out on Sunday knowing I would see her the next day and I was ecstatic. Of course I have had to eliminate a few different lifts by trial and error. But I also know who I can call when there is an error and my back may talk to me the next day….Dr. Jamie of course!

I have been athletic my entire life. In my youth and teens I speed skated competitively at regional meets, Nationals and North Americans. At 19 I retired from skating and found a new passion, skiing. But I wasn’t content skiing flats I fell in love with skiing the bumps, what we refer to as moguls. I eventually started competing in mogul competitions, in the early 90’s I competed on the Pro Mogul Tour. I also played in women’s softball and volleyball leagues. In addition to teaching my sons to ski I was a freestyle coach at Killington, VT for 7 years and for the past 5 years I have been a ski instructor at Killington on the weekends. When Dr. Jamie showed me what was going on in my spine I knew my years of skiing the bumps was the main contributor to the condition of my spine and lower back. I am so thankful I found Chiropractic Health Center this past spring and I have been blessed with finding one of the best doctors. The staff is wonderful and I love the atmosphere in the office. I am confident my back is now healthier and stronger. Thank you Dr. Jamie and Chiropractic Health Center, I look forward to a lifelong relationship.
