Fall is a popular season for golfers. The weather has cooled off and your game is likely at its best from playing all summer. There are many benefits of golfing, from low-impact exercise to stress relief and enjoying the fresh air. Yet, improper form can lead to an injury that forces you off the golf course. Before playing a round, prepare your body with these stretches.
Twisting Stretch
Starting with your legs wider than your hips, reach your right hand to your lower back with the palm facing away. Bend your right knee, reaching your left hand down to your right foot. Lift your torso up and switch hands.
Hip Flexor Stretch
From a kneeling position, step your right foot forward and press your hips forward, keeping your knee behind your toes. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat with the left foot forward.
Standing Side Stretch
Standing tall, reach your right arm up over your head and your left fingers down to the ground. Bend towards the left to stretch your right side. Return to an upright position and repeat with your left arm up over your head.
Quadricep Stretch
From a standing position, bend your left knee back and grasp your ankle, gently pulling the heel up until you feel a stretch in front of your thigh. Put your left foot down and repeat on the right leg.
Golfer’s Elbow Stretch
Extend your right arm in front of you with your palm facing up. Use your left hand to pull your fingers down and towards your body. Hold for 30 seconds, then repeat on the left arm.
Core Twist Stretch
Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart. Cross your arms over your chest, with one palm on each shoulder. Bend your knees and lean slightly forward, turning your torso to the left to mimic your backswing. Then rotate your body to the other side to mimic your follow-through. Repeat with your torso turned to the right.
